My mother was my first teacher. She was a gifted seamstress who taught me to see and understand color, to make a unified whole out of many parts, and to keep at it until the thing I was making became the thing I had imagined.

Some years ago I asked myself a few questions. Does the world really need any more stuff? Who should art belong to? Should I make any more paintings? Eventually I answered myself. The world does not need more stuff. Art should belong to everyone. I need to paint to be happy.

My paintings require as much intellectual effort as a much larger work, use minimal material, are affordable for most people, and fit in a Ziploc bag.

My current work is an emotional response to individual trees. They are paintings about trees, not paintings of trees. Whether it is a stunted pine, struggling to survive at the beach, or a pampered National Champion for Species ensconced in an arboretum, each tree is uniquely beautiful, and deserving of our close regard. Enjoy.
